Barter Exchange, historically one way providers were paid for their services is alive and well at Dr. Phil Aaron Medical Center. This program is especially popular with our Amish Community and Farmer population during the summer.

Printed green cash has been the most popular currency
for several decades. However, when times are hard, alternatives like barter are
used as a means of taking care of one's family. Such is the case with Fred
Peterson, who has used an imaginative approach in bartering for his family's
health needs.
Peterson, a resident of Rowena near Jamestown, Kentucky says he's been a trader
al his life. He is currently taking care of his family's medical needs by paying
Dr. Phil Aaron Medical Center with chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese.
It's just a part of our philosophy of giving our
patients another option," Phil Aaron, M.D., explains of the Center's barter
exchange program. "When we set out to be a Medical center, we simply felt it
would be a good common sense practice for us to allow our patients to pay their
bills in kind. Bartering is a great leveler, putting everybody on equal ground.
