Dr. Phil Aaron
Dr. Phil Aaron is trained in both Family Practice and
Preventive Medicine.
After
gradating from the University of Louisville Medical School, Aaron
trained at the Trover Clinic in
Madisonville. This Kentucky residency program is regarded as on of the
nation's most outstanding training sites for physicians preparing
to practice in rural areas. He later completed Family
Practice Training in Connecticut.
The four years of training
Dr. Aaron received in Preventive Medicine were undertaken first at the
University of Kentucky and completed at Yale University. In
addition, he completed training in Medical Decision-Making
at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Aaron brings to Columbia
an impressive array of credentials and wide experience with problems
and issues in the field of health. He earned both B.S. and A.B.
undergraduate degrees, has a Masters in History and in Public Health
(M.P.H.), and is one of the very few people in the United States who
have earned degrees in both medicine and law. Through the years,
he has been able to use his understanding of medicine, law, and politics
to help bring about changes in various areas of the health care field.
One of his contributions to
health care at the state level grew out of his Yale thesis in Public
Health. In his work, he studied the problem of the over-and
undersupply of physicians in different regions of Kentucky. The Kentucky General Assembly voted to carry out Aaron's recommendations for
attracting more doctors to Kentucky's rural areas and for correcting the maldistribution of physicians
in the state.
Throughout the years, Aaron
has become a recognized authority on health delivery problems and has
served on numerous national committees and foundations. He has received
grants and research awards, and is the author of some thirty-five (35) articles in
medical journals. His book, which advises physicians-in-training about
specialty choice, has gone through 15 printings and now ranks as an
all-time best seller among young doctors.
Aaron's dream has been
for each and every patient to get the best possible quality of medical
care regardless of their ability to pay.
Putting his energies into the Center, he continues the dedication
which made AMC a beacon to thousands of families in this seriously
medically underserved area. Where it had been nearly impossible to see a doctor without
missing work, for fifteen (15) years his office was opened nights and
weekends. It meant people could work, keep their jobs and income, and
still get needed medical help.
Today, in addition to seeing
patients on a regular basis, Dr. Phil puts his energy into fighting
obesity, drug addiction, smoking, and AIDS. He and his son,
Blake, have gone to South Africa, China and Europe to visit
AIDS clinics. Patient education continues to be among his top
priorities with a goal of helping people protect and keep the health
they have.
Dennis Wooley, MSN, FNP, APRN, BC
Dennis is very happy and excited to be a part of
the Dr. Phil Aaron Medical
Center team of providers. He is originally
from Champaign, Illinois, but lived ten years in Louisville,
Kentucky. Presently, he and his family have made Columbia their home.
Dennis is married to
Manuela, who comes from Salzburg, Austria, and they
have an eleven-year-old son, Andrew, and a nine-year-old daughter,
Hanna. Their children attend John Adair Intermediate School.
Dennis received his medical training in Louisville
from Spalding University as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In Addition, he
has a second Master's Degree from the Seminary, and an undergraduate
degree in English. Dennis also has additional training in Psychology and some training
in counseling from the Seminary.
In his spare time, his family enjoys
fishing, camping, hiking, and boating. They also like going to the movies.
Dennis looks forward to meeting you and serving
your needs. He has a special interest in health promotion, disease
prevention, Diabetes, and Hypertension management. In addition to
treating patients' illnesses, Dennis feels that it is critical to educate
about the disease process and how diet, exercise and other lifestyle
factors affect health. He also feels, it is important to match peoples' needs
with available resources.
Most importantly, he is his
patients advocate, and,
in actuality, he considers his profession to be much more than a career. In
Dennis's opinion, it is a mission in which he takes great pride, and
works
to fulfill everyday.
Diane Theiry, ARNP
Diane received her
education as a family Nurse Practitioner from Purdue University in
Indiana. She and her family relocated to Columbia in order to join Dr. Phil Aaron in
practice 18 years ago.
Diane has had the opportunity to get to know
many of the families of Adair and surrounding counties served by Dr.
Phil Aaron Medical Center. In many cases she now cares for the children of
youngsters she cared for when she first arrived in Kentucky.
She and her husband Douglas have been married for 38 years. They have
five children, Ken, Fran, Dori, Doug and Adriane and their spouses who
have blessed them with 14 grandchildren. Their recreational activities center
around their family and sports events, cheerleading, band activities,
camping, travel and rehabbing houses.
Diane has a special interest in women's and
children's healthcare issues developed through several years of practice
in this area with the Indiana State Board of Health. The true Family
Practice nature of the patient population at Dr. Phil Aaron Medical
Center provides her an ample opportunity for the delivery of clinical and
educational service to this population.
Diane performs home visits and nursing home rounds
that offer unique opportunities in caring for our homebound and elderly
patients.
Diane looks forward to meeting the healthcare
needs of her patients. She hopes you let your
family be a part of ours at Dr. Phil Aaron Medical Center.
